There’s something about a shopping trip to the city that invigorates, excites and feels decidedly more chic than your average shopping mall visit…Queen Street Mall is an absolute feast for the senses, a boon for anyone seeking a little retail therapy or those just after a spot of interesting crowd watching. With 700+ stores along the pedestrianised Queen Street Mall and over a 1000 across the CBD, this shopping precinct offers more than just a place to empty out your wallet, with six separate arcades and shopping centres in or immediately off the Mall. With retailers lining the mall, the first of the shopping centres are located at the ‘top’ end closest to the river and Southbank, The Myer Centre and 170 Queen Street. Here major retailers and eateries are spread out over several stories in the more modern centre style. If you’re after a more traditional mid century style retail experience, try the Brisbane and Tattersall’s Arcades further down. Wintergarden houses more high end retailers, whilst for those where only the latest haute couture and most indulgent luxury will do (and those who love to have a stickybeak at what all the fuss is about), Queens Plaza at the bottom of the Mall is a treasure trove of international and Australian boutiques. The likes of Dior, Bvlgari and Tiffany&Co and more stand side by side, with Camilla, Sass&Bide and Gorman just a few leading the Aussie designer charge. Aside from the retail therapy, Queen Street Mall offers visitors the chance to view incredible architecture, street performers and that invigorating feeling of just ‘being’ in the city. The convenience of a 16 minute bus ride will land you right under the Mall in the transit centre from Gabba Central Apartments, though if you really are intending on loading up on purchases, it’s just a short 6 minute drive over the Riverside Expressway.
