The Sleeping Beauty-Friday 4th of June to Saturday the 19th of June 2021

Be drawn into the fairytale world of good versus evil as Queensland Ballet performs The Sleeping Beauty. Experience the power of a kiss under the spell of Tchaikovsky’s dramatic musical score, performed live by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Greg Horsman’s compelling interpretation of The Sleeping Beauty delighted audiences and critics alike when first performed by Queensland Ballet in 2015. Back by popular demand, The Sleeping Beauty returns to the stage with all the enchantment of neoclassical theatre, captivating audiences with exquisite Renaissance-inspired costumes, spectacular choreography and elaborate stage sets.

Cursed by an evil fairy, Princess Aurora allows love to call her from slumber while the kingdom that has slept for 100 years dances itself, ever so delicately, back to life.

Be enchanted, lost and found, lulled and awakened, in a magical land of fairytale where evil tries but fails. Cats creep, fairies flit and beautiful bluebirds herald the triumph of good. As the Princess awakes, she touches the heart of every living creature.

Showcasing deeper narratives, Horsman’s two act retelling thrills audiences with dramatic solo and partnered performances.

Swamp Juice-Tuesday 6th of July to Saturday the 10th of July 2021

Bickering snails, neurotic snakes, opera singing mice and a cranky man out to capture a bird: welcome to a swamp like no other!

Using jaw dropping shadow puppets made from household objects and bits of rubbish, acclaimed Bunk Puppets puppeteer Jeff Achtem creates a wildly imaginative gurgling adventure about life in a swamp.

This award-winning favourite of family audiences and critics has toured the world and comes to QPAC this June, with an out of this world 3D shadow puppet finale that will leave you spellbound.

Emil & The Detectives-Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th of July 2021

Never underestimate the determination of a child!

Young Emil catches a train to visit family in the big city, when a sinister stranger steals something valuable. But the thief soon discovers Emil was not such an easy target. A group of quick-thinking and resourceful children rally around Emil. Can a bunch of kids work together to uncover and outsmart the true criminal?

Based on Erich Kästner’s 1929 novella, this is a story about courage and self-discovery, the value of friendships and taking risks, and the empowerment of young people. Streetwise city kids, a hard-working single mother and Emil’s past brush with the law add grit and nuance to this satisfying tale.

Using projections, shadow puppets and Slingsby’s signature intimate theatrical style, Emil and the Detectives is told by two skilled actors immersed in smoke and mirrors, miniature worlds and a cinematic score. Dark and light, intrigue and delight for audiences aged eight and upwards.

Winner of the 2018 Helpmann Award, Best Presentation for Children
